fresh eucalyptus

The year of the eucalyptus plant is upon us and it is the vogue favorite for all sort of amazing floral arrangements from door wreath to party tables. However, its health qualities are just as amazing especially in the winter months when we have little fresh air indoors and frequent colds and illness.

This nondescript plant and koala bear favorite, has long been known by indigenous peoples to relieve all sort of respiratory issues being a natural decongestant and stimulator. It’s anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties can help open up your airways in both nose and throat while even disinfecting sickroom air and clearing it of spiders. It is true powerhouse of natural help.

Some favorite eucalyptus remedies and rescues are:

*The shower. The oil is easily released for both aromatherapy and anti-inflammatory powers by the steam from your shower. Hang a bundle behind your shower head and create a eucalyptus steam.

*To freshen indoor air or a sickroom. Add the leaves & stem bits to a misting bottle of water and spray the air. The germicidal properties with kill germs while giving rooms a clean and fresh air.

*For humidifiers. Fill the humidifier adding leaves & stem bits. The steaming water will extract the oils and disperse clouds of aromatic air for easier breathing and relaxation.

*Healing oil. Fill a jar with leaves and stem bits and pour olive oil to cover. Set on a sunny windowsill for a few weeks. Strain out the leaves. Use as a natural alternative to treat arthritis, achy joints, irritated skin, wounds, and sores.

*Make relief bag. A bag of crumbled leaves and bits of cotton for a portable nose and throat inhalation help and cold relief.

*Sachet for spiders. Put eucalyptus leaves and stems in a cheesecloth or muslin pouch to keep spiders at bay-they detest it. Put them in corners, windows and under your sheets.
